Babcock's Training Business Achieves IIP Gold
17/12/2010
Babcock International Group is delighted to announce that the company's Training business has just been awarded the Investors in People Gold Standard. Of the 26,000 companies that have gained Investors in People, less than 1% have achieved the Gold Standard.
In order to achieve the Gold Standard, Babcock had to show exceptional working practices in areas such as people management, leadership, staff involvement and empowerment, staff recognition and reward, and continuous improvement. The company was then subject to a rigorous inspection procedure that included visits to a number of offices, plus telephone interviews, with involvement from staff at all levels across a wide variety of job roles.
Talking about their findings, the inspectors said that amongst the many activities which secured the award for Babcock, there were a number of stand-out features. These included the company's extensive use of focus groups in all aspects of company, product and service development. In particular, the inspectors were impressed by the use of focus groups in the implementation of e-Track, Babcock's highly successful tool for delivering apprenticeship training. Amongst other cited features were the consistency of practice within such a large and geographically spread company and the attitude of staff to their work. "It's clear that everyone loves what they do," said one inspector.
Alex Khan, Babcock's Managing Director for Education and
Training said: "I'm absolutely delighted that we've achieved the Investors in
People Gold Standard. We strive at all
times to provide the very best services within education and training, but we
know that this ultimately depends on our people. With that in mind, investing in our staff -
their expertise, practices and well-being - is central to the way we work. To have this recognised by Investors in
People is hugely rewarding."
