Aurion Learning creates new competency assessment tool for NIPEC

Aurion Learning, an award winning learning technology company, has designed and built a new competency assessment tool for the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC).
The competency assessment tool is designed to assist nurses and midwifes in their continuing professional development. It allows individuals to self-assess against set competency frameworks and/or to invite peers, line managers and direct reports to assess their competencies. This self and peer assessment functionality gives nurses and midwifes a much more rounded insight into how well they are performing. In particular, it helps them to:
- reflect on their competencies;
- consider their development needs;
- prepare for meetings with their supervisors;
- prepare for development reviews and annual appraisals; and
- prepare for job interviews.
So far the competency assessment tool allows nurses and midwifes to assess themselves against two core competency frameworks:
- Generic Competence Assessment Tool for Nursing and Midwifery Roles
- Promoting Mental Health and Well-being in Children and Young People
However, NIPEC are in the process of developing a number of competency frameworks and these will be uploaded to the competency assessment tool in the coming months.

Nurses and midwifes can access the new competency assessment tool by logging into NIPEC Development Framework website .
NIPEC is The Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery. It aims to improve the quality of health and care provided by nurses and midwives in Northern Ireland by supporting their practice, education and performance.
