The Lean Healthcare Academy has opened its third regional training centre at NHS Doncaster - the first to be based at a Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The private and public sector partnership will bring further improvements to patient care across the South Yorkshire trust's area by ensuring that people can access treatment more quickly and easily. It will also result in cost savings.

A launch event for the new training centre culminated with the handover of a plaque by Lean Healthcare Academy manager Wendy Gauntley to Roger Greenwood, chairman of NHS Doncaster.

The trust has already successfully used Lean methods through a pilot scheme in secondary care, which saw staff access to medical records improved and waiting times for both orthodontics and ophthalmology patients reduced. 

Now, under an initial 12-month project, further Lean improvement schemes will be undertaken within NHS Doncaster and across partner organisations. They will shine the spotlight on primary care for the first time.
