Skillsmart Retail's ‘Stepping Up to Retail' CD-ROM is an easily accessible and usable toolkit that has been contextualised for retailers by retailers and can be used at recruitment, appraisal and review stage, or when putting employees forward for a vocational qualification. The CD contains:

- A Retail Aptitude check
Highlights the differing job roles and opportunities within the sector and gives learners a "soft" way of accessing the language, literacy and numeracy assessments.

- A Retail Skills check
Asks a series of literacy and numeracy questions contextualised for retail to pick up on learners' literacy and numeracy levels at or below Level 2.

- A Retail Initial Assessment
Two different Initial Assessments, one for literacy and numeracy and one for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) will asses learners at a level between Entry-Level 1 and Level 2.

- Move On Practice Tests
A series of practice questions offering detailed feedback, designed to be taken before the National Tests at Levels 1 and 2 in literacy, numeracy and ESOL.

- Retail Vocational Directions
A list of all the sector-based qualifications offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3.
