NEW LEADER - BUT WHAT NEXT?
12/11/2008
As the dust begins to settle following Barack Obama's extraordinary and historic election victory and the President Elect of the United States gets ready to take up his place in the Oval Office, the world is waiting in anticipation to see exactly what kind of leader he will become.
The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) has shown that the first 90 days are the riskiest for any leader, great or small, so what strategies will Obama need to adopt to establish himself and what does his election mean for 21st century leadership?
Penny de Valk, Chief Executive of the ILM, said: "The fascinating thing about Obama is that he has little executive experience and we know very little about his policies. The American people voted for the man - for his integrity, authenticity, character, vision and judgment. Someone who doesn't see the enormous task ahead as a zero sum game, who assured us in his acceptance speech that he would do a lot of listening - especially to those he disagreed with. Obama captures the spirit of the modern leader - he is not the expert with all the answers but someone we trust to help create new solutions."
