New Diploma in Retail for 14-19 year olds

1/9/2007

Over the next ten years, 14 to 19 year olds will have greater choice in the courses, subjects and qualifications they take, making it easier to gain the skills needed for further study and work. New Diplomas will be introduced alongside GCSEs and A levels

From 2008, new Diploma qualifications will be available in selected schools and colleges around the country.

Based around a particular employment sector - such as Engineering, Creative and Media or IT - the Diplomas combine academic study with practical experience. They are aimed at giving students more choice and encouraging them to stay in education longer.

What are the benefits of the new Diplomas?

  • Diplomas combine academic learning with hands-on experience
  • Although students will be based at their school or college, they may have the chance to learn in other schools, colleges or the workplace
  • Diploma students learn in detail about their chosen industry, which will help them make decisions about their future career
  • Students learn skills that any employer, in any sector would recognise
  • Students will get the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to go on to college or university
