Navigate Road Show Prize Draw Winner
25/6/2009
Russ Perkins from Eastbourne, who enrolled on the Navigate programme was the lucky winner of a satellite navigation system which was presented to him by Dr John Blake, Principal and Chief Executive of Sussex Downs College.
Navigate was launched back in April with a series of community road shows. As an incentive to join the scheme, a free draw took place to win a sat nav.
Navigate is at the heart of the response to the current economic situation from Sussex Downs College. The initiative is aimed at helping those who are facing an uncertain time in their employment or those looking for a new job. It is a support programme that provides free training and guidance.
The service provides a range of workshops to help people rethink their approach to work plus careers advice and support. Candidates are offered an initial grounding session looking at personal development, CV writing and interview skills. This is followed by taster pathway workshops which can introduce new topics of learning. There is also an opportunity to undertake a range of non accredited courses which allow study in greater detail. This will then hopefully lead to employment or further opportunities to undertake an apprenticeship or other formal training leading to a qualification.
Russ Perkins winner of the prize draw had worked in media as a journalist for nearly 40 years before recently being made redundant. Russ said: "The Navigate concept has given me a framework to my life and given me hope for the future. I have started to undertake some life coaching courses which look at how I see others and how other people react to me.
