For a Safer Lagos-Government partners UK firm
14/5/2009
On the 28th of April 2009, Lagos State, a south western Nigerian city, joined the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and indeed the rest of the world in celebration of the Health and safety at work day.
Putting into cognizance the relevance and importance of safety to the well being of the citizens of the State, the State Government is taking the issue of safety a step further. As part of her preparations to enter into the league of world modern cities, Lagos State Government is working with Safety+, a United Kingdom based safety consulting firm, to institute a commission that will basically be concerned with the safety of the residence and visitors to the State.
Lagos State Safety Issues - Background
Lagos State is the melting pot of the Nigerian nation. With population of more than 18 million people, it is the desired destination of Nigerians living in the other parts of the country, and indeed other African countries. The limited land mass size as against the human population, coupled with stretched limited infrastructure makes issue of Safety a major challenge.
The State is fast expanding by the minute with a lot of fast food outlets, schools, production and service industries emerging daily. Along side such positive expansion; the government is faced with the responsibility of monitoring the safety and well being of her citizens.
