Driving Down the Cost of your Training
24/10/2008
Keeping your staff motivated during the credit crunch
Driving down the cost of training during the credit crunch.
Staff motivation during difficult times is more important than ever - you need to keep your costs down and increase productivity - not an easy challenge.
Although the benefits of staff training for improved motivation and increased productivity are undeniable, when you need to cut costs it's usually the marketing and training budgets that get hit first. Patricia Peter, head of corporate governance and employment at the Institute of Directors, said: " If you want to survive, then you have to keep your best people."1
So how do you balance the need to keep your staff motivated, skilled and engaged during these challenging times? Many companies are continuing training because they know the benefits it can bring, but they are doing it differently. Instead of bringing in external consultants they are taking on the challenge themselves: using in-house trainers and individuals with a flair for teaching and training to help staff develop.
Delivery is one thing, developing the materials for a training programme from scratch takes time and effort - and with staff time and resource pushed to the limit it isn't always a priority. A cost effective way of delivering training to employees is through using ‘ready-made' programmes that you can download from the web. These programmes, which cover a wide range of subjects, provide an easily accessible resource that can include full lesson plans and instructions, slides, often that can be tailored to your own branding . To all intents and purposes these documents look as though days have been spent in their development when, in fact, it was only minutes.
