CULTURAL SECTOR CELEBRATES THE TRANSFORMATIVE EFFECT OF GOVERNMENT-FUNDED LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
23/9/2009
Three years since the establishment of the Cultural Leadership Programme (CLP), a series of high profile figures including Sir John Tusa, Nicholas Hytner, Diane Lees, Charles Saumarez Smith, Sandy Nairne and Sir John Hegarty, have today (23 September) praised its success in creating a new crop of visionary leaders for the arts world and the broader cultural and creative industries.
The Government-funded Programme was set up in 2006 in response to a lack of investment in the training and development of cultural leaders. Though the sector is worth £52m to the UK economy, CLP research (Meeting the Challenge) has found that cultural and creative organisations spend only 0.3% of their turnover on leadership development, compared to an average of 2% in other sectors.
