The Association of Graduate Recruiters to launch General Election Manifesto 2010 - Tuesday 9 March
24/02/2010
DIARY NOTE--DIARY NOTE-- DIARY NOTE
The Association of Graduate Recruiters to launch General Election Manifesto 2010 Tuesday 9 March.
The AGR, the leading voice of graduate recruiters and developers in the UK, is publishing the manifesto to ensure that the views of graduate employers are heard at the next general election and by the next Government.
The manifesto will make a series of recommendations about the future of higher education in the UK and, crucially, set out an agenda for placing employers at the heart of these discussions. Some of the issues it will address include:
- the 50% participation target in Higher Education
- student tuition fees and Lord Browne's Independent Review of Higher Education and Student Finance
- the introduction of the Higher Education Achievement Record
- employability and degree courses
- the effectiveness and resources available to school and university careers services
The policy insights and proposals contained in the manifesto will reflect the views of the AGR's 750-strong membership, which includes most blue-chip companies as well as public sector employers. AGR members collectively employ in the region of 30,000 graduates each year.
There are now more than 2.3 million university students in the UK and a degree is a pre-requisite for around one in three entry-level jobs. The business of recruiting, paying and training graduates costs employers anything up to £3bn each year.
