The Cast Iron Welding Repair Course equips participants with the additional skills and techniques to effect sound and cost effective repairs to cast iron.

Objectives

On completion of the course participants will be able to:

* identify the type of cast iron and assess its weldability
* select appropriate filler alloys for the job
* assess distortion stresses, pre-heat, post-heat and cooling gradients
* use hot and cold welding techniques, back stepping, skip and planned stitching and weld peening
* select the most appropriate processes to effect the repair
* use reinforcing, studding, grooves, bracing and electrode filler material mixing
* use powder spray techniques, and generate TIG and gas welds

Note: The course can be structured to accommodate those who already have cast iron repair knowledge, but who wish to advance their skills and job experience.

Pre-requisites

Participants should have completed the basic gas welding and arc welding courses or have competent welding skills.
